St. Francis (Franjo), relief by Ivan Meštrović
Opposite the entrance we see a work by our artist Ivan Meštrović, a plaster cast brought from Rome by diplomatic post. The original was made for the Franciscan curia in Rome.
St. Francis of Assisi, born Giovanni Francesco Bernardone in Assisi in 1181, died in 1226. He is the founder of the Franciscan order or the Order of Friars Minor, and a co-founder of the Order of St. Clare or the Order of the Poor Clares (The Order of Poor Ladies).
